The opening chapter of the live-action miniseries Death Note: New Generation revives the old terror nearly a decade later. A meticulous task force recruit grows obsessed with the long-dead first Kira, just as a fresh hand opens a notebook and the heart attacks begin again.
Set roughly nine years past the events of the earlier film, the episode follows Tsukuru Mishima as he joins the task force still watching for notebook-driven deaths. Matsuda clears him on a polygraph whose final question asks whether he knows of the Death Note, and Mishima passes. Once inside, the recruit fixates on the Kira case and on Light Yagami in particular, poring over trivia his colleagues find pointless, such as the brand of chips Misa once favored, until Nanase dubs him a Death Note obsessive.
When a man drops dead in the manner of Kira's old victims, Mishima and Nanase investigate and trace the cause to a toxic local flower whose poison mimics heart failure. The team arrests Rokuro Natsugawa, a lunch server who confesses he killed the victim for driving a friend to suicide years earlier, taking on the role of judge himself because no Kira existed to do it. As the story airs, an unseen figure opens a notebook and sets pen to a fresh page.
Soon Natsugawa starts raving that he is Kira and that the notebook has returned, then succumbs to cardiac arrest once guards thwart his attempt to bite through his own tongue. Criminals across the country begin dropping as they once did, and online crowds celebrate Kira's revival. The chapter borrows its subtitle, Rebirth, from the title of the anime's very first episode.

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....

Five Bleach female characters, ranked and settled. Yoruichi sits at number five, the spot nobody expects, and our number one is an Arrancar with a soft heart....
Mishima's Chapter: Rebirth is the opening episode of the live-action miniseries Death Note: New Generation, set roughly nine years after the earlier film; it revives the Kira terror as a new hand opens a notebook and heart attacks begin again.
Death Note: New Generation is a live-action miniseries whose first chapter, Mishima's Chapter: Rebirth, premiered on Hulu Japan on September 16, 2016, continuing the story about nine years after the preceding film.
Tsukuru Mishima is the lead introduced in Mishima's Chapter: Rebirth, a meticulous task force recruit who becomes obsessed with the long-dead first Kira and with Light Yagami, to the point that a colleague labels him a Death Note obsessive.
In Mishima's Chapter: Rebirth, Mishima and Nanase investigate a man who dies like Kira's old victims and trace the death to a toxic local flower; they arrest Rokuro Natsugawa, a lunch server who confesses he poisoned the victim as a self-appointed judge because no Kira existed to do it.
As noted in Mishima's Chapter: Rebirth, the subtitle Rebirth is borrowed from the title of the Death Note anime's very first episode.
