Gameplay

Players pick one of four roles: Kira, a Kira follower, L, or a member of L's investigation team, then split into two teams. Kira's side wins by protecting Kira's identity and thinning out the opposition, while L's side wins by unmasking and arresting Kira. Matches alternate between an action phase, where investigators complete tasks and gather clues while Kira eliminates targets or manipulates evidence, and a meeting phase, where the group discusses and votes on suspects. L has unique tools such as directing investigators and placing surveillance cameras, and updates after launch added extra roles including Mello, Watari, and Soichiro Yagami.

Reception

Killer Within launched with crossplay between PC and PlayStation on November 5, 2024, and drew mixed reviews, sitting around 71 on Metacritic for PC and 54 for PS5. Critics liked the idea of adapting Death Note's deduction gameplay but pointed to shallow content, mandatory voice chat, and server stability problems as the game's biggest weaknesses.
