Six Death Notes

A cluster of notebooks at the heart of Light Up the NEW World. The rules permit only six to be active among the living at once, so six shinigami deliver six of them to six separate owners, and the film becomes a contest to seize every last one.

Overview

These six notebooks drive the plot of Death Note: Light Up the NEW World, together with its novelization. The Shinigami King dangles his own throne as the prize for whoever turns up a new Kira, and because the rules permit only six active books among the living at any moment, six death gods carry six of them down to be claimed by six different people.

Function

The six-notebook ceiling shapes the entire struggle. Two forces race to gather them: Yuki Shien, who would lock the books to Kira's cause should he hold the full set, and the Japanese Task Force, who could seal them away and stop anyone else from killing if they win the collection. Shien runs down most of them and feeds them to Mishima, and once Mishima is taken the whole batch lands with the Task Force. The unit moving them to safety is then ambushed, leaving some destroyed while at least one returns to use as fresh heart-attack deaths begin, though which were lost is never revealed.

Notable Users

The opening owners and their attached death gods are Alexey Ivanov with Sidoh, Sakura Aoi with Bepo, Hikari Yagami with Ryuk, Ryuzaki with Arma, Roger Irving with an unnamed shinigami, and Kenichi Mikuriya with one called Eve. Their aims diverge, from Ivanov's mercy killings to Irving's profiteering as a Wall Street broker to Mikuriya's targeting of Kira's supporters from his seat on the bench. One book is the very notebook Light and Misa once used, brought back by Ryuk for Light's son Hikari, while Shien gradually hunts down nearly all of the rest.
