Nisio Isin is a prolific Japanese novelist and screenwriter best known within the Death Note franchise for co-writing its spin-off light novel with series creators Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.
Isin wrote the Death Note spin-off novel Death Note Another Note, subtitled The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases, working alongside original series writer Tsugumi Ohba and artist Takeshi Obata. The story follows a young L investigating a serial murder case in Los Angeles years before the main story, filling in the detective's backstory outside the core manga.
Isin's career began in 2002, when The Beheading Cycle launched his Zaregoto mystery series and won him the Mephisto Prize at just twenty years old. He went on to create the long-running Monogatari novels, later adapted into a hit Shaft anime, plus Katanagatari, Medaka Box, and Juni Taisen, and for much of the 2010s ranked among Japan's top-selling authors.
