Appearance

Muichiro is a short, lean boy with fair skin, described as smaller than Tanjiro yet deceptively strong. His waist-length hair fades from raven black to turquoise, and his large turquoise eyes once looked vacant before regaining a hopeful spark after his childhood memories returned. He is identical to his late older twin, Yuichiro.

He wears the Corps uniform with unusually long, loose sleeves and a traditional umanori-cut hakama that give his whole outfit a flowing, oversized silhouette. During his fight with Gyokko he manifests his Demon Slayer Mark, taking the form of mist-shaped clouds spread across both cheeks and the left of his brow.

Personality

For most of the story Muichiro is absent-minded and detached, drifting in thought and operating on cold logic rather than feeling. He can come across as arrogant, as when he berates Kotetsu, though Tanjiro senses no real malice in him. This indifference traces back to the death of his twin, which made him lose his memories and bury a permanent rage.

Before that loss he was gentle and optimistic, eager to protect people. Reuniting with Tanjiro gradually restores his memories, and he becomes warmer, more mature, and finally able to value his comrades and his own happiness again, even displaying the childishness natural to his age.

Abilities

Despite his youth, Muichiro is among the most gifted swordsmen in the Corps, said by Kyojuro to be more skilled than Kyojuro was at the same age. Only two months passed between his first time holding a blade and his rise to Hashira, a pace that astonished Tengen Uzui. With his Mark active he killed Upper Rank Five Gyokko and later contributed decisively to the fall of Upper Rank One Kokushibo, even after losing limbs and most of his torso.

He attributes his willpower to the ceaseless rage that ignited after his brother's death. He also unlocks the Transparent World and turns his Nichirin sword bright red, hindering Kokushibo's regeneration. As the era's finest Mist Breathing user he created an original technique, his seventh form, that disorients enemies by sharply alternating between crawling slowness and blinding speed.
