Appearance

Sumihiko is a teenage boy with short, tousled black hair tipped in burgundy and combed back, with a few loose strands hanging over his forehead. His wide, dark red eyes have white pupils that lighten near the base of the irises. Overall he looks strikingly like his ancestor Tanjiro Kamado.

He dresses in his school uniform: a pale blue dress shirt under a sleeveless white V-neck cardigan, paired with plain black trousers, a black necktie, and dark brown dress shoes.

Personality

He inherits Tanjiro's nature as well as his looks, being warm and upbeat, grinning and chatting happily with his friend as they run. He is also a heavy sleeper, having ignored his brother's attempts to wake him and apparently being late to school many times over. Athletic where his brother excels academically, he thinks nothing of jumping off tall buildings and swinging down stairwells on his way to class.

For all his clumsiness he is courteous, turning back with an apology after disturbing a pair of older men at their board game and a group of girls as he raced past them in Chapter 205. He values his family's history and reflects that every person, his own ancestors included, carries a personal story worth knowing.

History

In Chapter 205, Sumihiko's older brother Kanata tries to rouse him for school for the twenty-eighth time before giving up and leaving without him. Waking late, Sumihiko dresses, calls out to his mother, and exits through his ninth-floor bedroom window, dropping to a balcony, vaulting onto a neighboring roof, and climbing down by way of the stairwells while wishing for a perfect attendance award.

His route carries him past the reincarnations of figures from the demon-slaying era, including a grumbling Jigoro Kuwajima, two police officers resembling Sanehiro and Genya Shinazugawa whose car he flips over, and children who echo Giichi Tomioka, Sabito, and Makomo. His friend Tojuro Rengoku joins him near the school, and the two clear the closing front gate together, relieved to have arrived in time.
