Taro has been at Yae's side since she was young, and the bond between them runs deep. He is fiercely loyal to her, and she treasures him in return. The Hashira Giyu Tomioka and Shinobu Kocho encounter Yae and Taro after Yae collapses. While Shinobu tends to her, Giyu waits nearby with the dog, who clamps onto his hand and refuses to release until Yae intervenes and tells him to stop and make peace. Later, the two journey across snowy mountains, pausing at the ruins of Yae's former home. Yae urges Taro to follow a scent through the cold. He suddenly barks at something and dashes off. Moments later, his severed head lands in the snow before her. Looking toward the crest of the hill, she recognizes the distant figure responsible as her father, now a demon.
