Overview

Swordsmiths are master artisans who craft, mend, and care for Nichirin Swords inside hidden workshops in the Swordsmith Village. These weapons matter enormously because they are the only blades capable of slaying demons. Given how vital their labor is, the smiths and their homes are guarded by intense secrecy, with their whereabouts kept hidden from outsiders and demonic enemies alike.

Strict measures protect the village. A Demon Slayer who needs to visit travels while blindfolded, with ears and nose blocked, carried on the back of a Kakushi so no clues reach the demons. The smiths themselves wear hyottoko-style masks to disguise who they are, a precaution meant to keep them from being hunted down.

Role

Each smith devotes their entire life to the art of making swords, sharpening their abilities across years of practice. Styles and methods differ from one craftsman to the next, handed down across generations or absorbed from a teacher. The work is treated as sacred, and every smith pours genuine effort into each blade so that the Corps goes into battle properly armed.

Forging a Nichirin Sword begins with choosing the finest ores, including special material that drinks in sunlight. The metal is then heated, folded, and tempered with great care. Beyond swords, the smiths also produce combat and training gear, most famously the Yoriichi Type Zero training doll used by the Corps.

Several smiths stand out for the warriors they equip. Hotaru Haganezuka forges Tanjiro Kamado's blade, while Kozo Kanamori supplies the dual swords used by Inosuke Hashibira and also serves Muichiro Tokito. Tecchin Tecchikawahara crafts unusual designs such as Shinobu Kocho's thin poison-tipped stinger and Mitsuri Kanroji's long whip-like sword.

Other known artisans include Tetsuido, Tetsumotonaka, Tetsudoji, and Tetsutani, alongside Gantetsu, who shapes Obanai Iguro's twisted blade.
