Tohru's Aunt

She is a middle-aged, fair-skinned woman of average build, a few age lines gathered around her dark brown eyes. Her short, blue-black hair reaches the nape of her neck with long bangs parted to the right, and she leans toward warm-toned sweaters and long skirts, sometimes adding a pair of oval glasses.

Serious and level-headed, she cares intensely about how the family looks to others and about her children's prospects. That worry drove her to hire a detective when Tohru returned from living among the Sohmas, fearing some scandal might dash her son's hopes of joining the police. She never warmed to Kyoko and assumes Tohru is every bit as reckless as her mother, reacting with almost comic petulance whenever things go against her. Underneath it all, though, she does care for her relatives and slowly softens a little toward her niece.

She and her husband intended to relocate into her father's home once it was renovated, so he stayed with her family in the meantime and Tohru joined them after the work was finished. On Tohru's first day back, the aunt admitted to the detective inquiry and voiced her unease about the girl living with three men, and when her son pressed Tohru about doing anything indecent, the grandfather slapped him, stunning them both. After he urged Tohru to live wherever she truly wished and Yuki and Kyo came to collect her, the aunt was left worn out by the whole affair. She later phoned Tohru to report that the grandfather had strained his back, and wondered aloud whether she should attend the coming parent-teacher meeting before Shigure smoothly volunteered in her place.
