History
Wounded when Second Impact erupts, Dr. Katsuragi holds on just long enough to see Misato safely away in an escape pod before he dies. His scientific legacy outlives him: the Super Solenoid theory he formulated lends its name to the S² Engine. In Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, his death plays out before Misato's eyes moments after he hands her the pendant she wears throughout the films.
The video game Evangelion Detective takes far greater liberties. There he survives under the name Hideaki Katsuragi, voiced by Shinji Ogawa, and turns out to secretly be an Angel resembling an Ultraman character. After transforming into that creature he battles Evangelion Units 01, 00, and 02, suffers defeat, and vanishes in a ray of light.
