Iblis

Iblis takes after a tortoise stripped of its hind legs, dragging a lengthy tail and carrying a shell that by itself outsizes an Evangelion. A limber neck extends the head forward from beneath the shell's leading edge. Ridge lines mark the skull where sockets ought to sit, yet it holds no eyes at all; sight comes instead from a solitary yellow eye mounted at the end of its long, protruding tongue. Rather than sheltering inside all that armor, the core dangles at the very end of the tail, well away from the trunk. Promotional art shows the Angel breaching from the sea, a visual nod to Sachiel's arrival in the television series. The name carries its own weight: in Islam, Iblis is the Devil, a being of smokeless flame cast out for refusing to bow to Adam, and its stated meaning is He that causes despair.

Three humps rise from the shell, and each one projects an independent A.T. Field. Stacked atop one another they form a triple barrier; woven together they instead discharge an aurora-like resonance wave able to hit several targets at once. Iblis also tunnels beneath the ground to reposition itself, and when a newly developed N² device detonates against it, the Angel drinks in the blast's energy and emerges stronger for it.

The scenario opens the Angel's story in Siberia, close to where Russia borders China, with NERV's Russian branch making first contact. Containment collapses almost immediately: the Angel fights far beyond the branch's projections, and their newest N² weapon backfires by empowering it. Iblis then flattens New Vladivostok, swims across the sea to come ashore at Niigata, and bends its course through Matsushiro on a line aimed straight at Tokyo-3.
