Evangelion Unit-00 Type F

Character

A one-legged sniper Evangelion from the ANIMA continuation, rebuilt around the core salvaged from Unit-00' after the Armisael battle. Anchored as NERV Japan's final line of defense, it trades nearly all mobility for the Angel's Backbone, an A.T. Field cannon of extreme range.

Overview

This Stage 2 machine begins as wreckage. After Unit-00' falls against Armisael, technicians recover its core and keep it regenerating inside Central Dogma, then combine it with mothballed prototype parts and newly built Type F armor to assemble a dedicated sniping platform. The design surfaces first in Dengeki Hobby Magazine before the Neon Genesis Evangelion: ANIMA novel folds it into its story.

Marksmanship dictates its anatomy. Both the right arm and the right leg are amputated so their share of the A.T. Field can feed the main weapon, and a skid-style prosthesis stands in for the missing leg, bracing the unit in a stable firing posture. The Type F plating cannot be removed, leaving the machine with very poor maneuverability. No S² Engine is installed; power arrives through an umbilical cable, a workable arrangement for a unit that never strays from base. Its armor and reach are judged strong enough to restage Operation Yashima alone.

Rei Trois was the intended operator, but the unit is refitted for Rei Six, the sole alteration being an entry plug resized for her smaller frame. A later conversion adds flight equipment, producing Evangelion Unit-00 Type F Allegorica.

Role

The Angel's Backbone occupies the space where the right arm once sat. Among the most powerful A.T. Field weapons in the setting, it rides accelerated heavy particles on a phase-inverted, corrosive field, then exploits the repulsion of a conventional field to boost them further, erasing the enemy's barrier the instant they land. The particles spiral through an egg-shaped acceleration chamber before leaving the barrel, and while the gun fires quietly for its bulk, the impact is thunderous. The unit once misread the cannon as an extension of its own body and spontaneously raised a field inside the chamber.

In the novel it defends NERV Japan from a fixed armored emplacement on Mount Komagatake in the Hakone range, connected to headquarters by underground transport and an elevator. From that perch it snipes incoming missiles whose launch aircraft sit beyond even its enormous reach. The pachinko game CR Evangelion X also fields it: Rei strips away most of the Tenth Angel's layered defenses with the Backbone while Asuka's blades and Shinji's Impact Bolt finish the enemy.

Notable Members

Rei Six operates the finished machine, inheriting a frame originally tailored to Rei Trois. The unit answers to NERV Japan and anchors the long-range end of the Type F family, with Unit-01 Type F covering mid-range and Unit-02 Type F planned for close quarters. In its pachinko appearances the armor sits over the Rebuild design of the base Eva rather than the television version.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Evangelion Unit-00 Type F?

Evangelion Unit-00 Type F is a one-legged sniper Evangelion from the ANIMA continuation, built around the regenerated core salvaged from Unit-00' after its battle against Armisael, and anchored as NERV Japan's final line of defense.

What weapon does Unit-00 Type F use?

Unit-00 Type F's primary weapon is the Angel's Backbone, an A.T. Field cannon mounted in place of its amputated right arm that fires accelerated heavy particles capable of erasing an enemy's A.T. Field on impact.

Why does Unit-00 Type F have poor mobility?

Unit-00 Type F amputates its right arm and right leg to feed the A.T. Field into its cannon and wears non-removable Type F plating, leaving it with very poor maneuverability compared to a standard Evangelion.

Who pilots Unit-00 Type F?

Rei Six pilots the finished Unit-00 Type F, taking over a frame that was originally built for Rei Trois.

How is Unit-00 Type F powered?

Unit-00 Type F has no S squared Engine and instead draws power through an umbilical cable, a workable setup since the unit never leaves its fixed emplacement.
