Evangelion Unit-01 Stage 2 Specification

The Neon Genesis Evangelion: ANIMA Visual Book presents this configuration under the full designation Evangelion Unit-01 Stage 2 Specification Type B Equipment. Lessons gathered across the Angel war, including A.T. Field-assisted drive systems, are worked into a new generation of restraints that recast Unit-01 from experimental machine into a true combat frame. Shinji Ikari sits in its entry plug, with Yui Ikari's soul residing in the core.

The plating keeps the signature purple and green while adding far more black and additional green accenting, and the whole silhouette grows heavier because the design descends from the Type F armor. Where its Stage 2 siblings, Unit-0.0 and Unit-02 Type II, stand on high-heeled boots built for agility, this unit wears low-cut boots that better distribute the ground pressure of heavy armament.

Stage 2 standardizes armament enhanced by the A.T. Field, defensive and offensive alike, with the Magoroku Exterminate Sword Stage 2 among its tools. A new rail system on each weapons station lets Evangelion gear interchange with JSSDF ordnance, and the same mounting scheme permits a swap into Type F armor.

Real combat use never materializes. The Type B loadout does nothing to tame the runaway output and heat of the S² Engine absorbed from Zeruel, while the F-Type armor's mass, once feared to hobble the unit, proves irrelevant against that engine's power. With its constantly deployed field armor, the Type F becomes the effective standard fit, and the Type B gear is reserved almost entirely for testing until it is treated as ordinary equipment. No Angel activity follows the battle at NERV headquarters until the enemy resurgence, and the data gathered ultimately feeds the Super Evangelion program.

Shinji Ikari is the designated pilot and Yui Ikari the soul within, continuity inherited from the original Unit-01. The machine belongs to NERV Japan's Stage 2 generation together with Unit-0.0 and Unit-02 Type II. Its artwork carries a footnote of its own: the design reworks an early Super Evangelion concept, later published with alterations under the Stage 2 name.
