Jet Alone Kai

This successor unit continues the Jet Alone program within the Neon Genesis Evangelions game. In the setting's lore, the robot shown in Episode 7 of the television series was merely a prototype, and work on this follow-up machine was already underway at the time. Shiro Tokita, the program's stubborn chief, saw the new model through to completion. Visually it departs sharply from its predecessor; aside from the distinctive sunken head, nearly every component has been reworked.

The headline change is the power plant. An N² Reactor replaces the original nuclear core, removing any possibility of meltdown, though the new system is thirsty: it demands large volumes of coolant water, fed from a tank mounted on the machine's back, and vents steam through rear exhaust pipes.

Unlike the unarmed prototype, Kai carries weapons, wielding an enormous hammer alongside a wrist-mounted ring that discharges electricity.

Japan Heavy Chemical Industries operates the unmanned machine. In the game, players who steer the original Jet Alone clear of its meltdown are rewarded later when Tokita brings Kai into the war with the Mass Production Evangelions.

Ikuto Yamashita drew the design at the request of producer Yoshihiro Okamoto, joking that he deliberately held back on making it stylish because a JA that looked too cool would no longer be a JA. The Bandai Neon Genesis Evangelion 2 toyline produced a figure of it, including a black and yellow recolor.
