Oni EVA

Classified as a Giant Monstrous Being, Oni EVA menaces the twenty-first episode of Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z, titled "Sortie, Shinkalion Z 500 TYPE EVA". Its origin is playfully meta: the beast begins as the life-size Unit-01 statue at the Toei Kyoto Studio Park, an actual attraction in Kyoto, Japan, until Valtom twists it into a living weapon. The transformation backfires when the creature goes berserk, ignores Valtom's commands, and ultimately disappears. Its Japanese name translates to Demon EVA.

Modeled on the oni of Japanese folklore, the monster keeps Unit-01's basic outline while warping the details: its feet grow toes, its fingertips end in claws, its teeth lengthen into fangs, and the guards at the ankles, knees, and elbows sharpen into spikes. From behind, its back reproduces the shape of Unit-01's head, with an umbilical cable dangling like a tongue.

A secondary Beast Mode pushes the mutation further. Long blade-like growths extend from the arms, strong enough to seize the E5 Shinkalion, and the lower legs invert so the creature can drop to all fours and scuttle at much greater speed.

Valtom creates the monster but never truly commands it; once berserk, it answers to no one. The Shinkalion Z 500 TYPE EVA, the crossover machine the episode is named for, sorties against it, making Oni EVA the designated adversary of the Shinkalion and Evangelion collaboration storyline.
