Overview

The S.J.H.U. PROJECT unites the four "Shin" film heroes in a single transformation gimmick. In the promotional short, Godzilla, Ultraman, Evangelion Unit-01, and Kamen Rider merge into one towering machine, an idea conceived to promote a combining figure from Bandai. Takuya Tsurumaki of PLEX finalized the robot's design, and stuntman Yohei Fujita performed the character in costume for the video.

Planning began around April 2022, and securing sign-off from every rights holder consumed roughly a year before the project's announcement. Yuki Mitsuoka of Bandai, who headed planning, noted that engineering the figure demanded about double the design time of a typical robot toy. Bandai Spirits opened pre-orders on 19 May 2023 for a release priced at 23,100 yen, with the combined figure standing about 240 mm tall. The design process was later documented in issue 305 of Figure King.

Function

Godzilla anchors the combination as its torso. His feet, tail, and dorsal fins detach, his head and neck fold down against the chest, and panels along the pelvis and thighs slide open to expose red trim on the right side and green on the left. Ultraman and Unit-01 each split at the waist; their lower bodies become the robot's feet while their upper halves serve as its arms. An A.T. Field generated by the Evangelion hardens into an ornamental chestpiece that frames Godzilla's head, and the Cyclone motorcycle, still carrying Kamen Rider, locks in as the head. A pair of red and white wing structures sprouts from the finished robot's back.

Its arsenal draws on all four heroes. The Spacium Beam Sword pairs a solidified Spacium Beam with a hilt taken from a piece of Godzilla's back, the chest-mounted Godzilla head can still unleash atomic breath, and an A.T. Field doubles as a shield.

Notable Users

The four heroes operate the robot jointly, with Kamen Rider continuing to ride the Cyclone that forms its head. In the promotional video they face a horned sludge kaiju backed by a swarm of smaller drones in the middle of a city. After Godzilla rallies the group with a roar, they combine and advance through enemy laser fire, then finish the monster with a coordinated sequence: strikes from sword and shield, a blast of atomic breath, and a Rider Kick delivered by Kamen Rider himself.
