Overview
This crossover Shinkalion debuts in episode 31 of Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion THE ANIMATION, titled "Launch!! Shinkalion 500 TYPE EVA", and returns in the theatrical film Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion the Movie: The Marvelous Fast ALFA-X That Comes From the Future. Its train mode is the 500 TYPE EVA, the real shinkansen livery produced through a partnership between the Evangelion franchise and West Japan Railway Company.
Two collectibles followed the animation. Good Smile Company distributed a MODEROID plastic model kit on 1 June 2020, and Kaiyodo issued the figure EVANGELION EVOLUTION EV-020 on 30 September 2020 at 10,780 yen.
Function
In robot mode the train's cars, more than four in all, rearrange into a bipedal fighter standing 28.5 meters tall and weighing 123 tons. Unit-01's influence is unmistakable: the head mirrors the Eva's helmet, a near-identical collar rings the neck, and the purple and green scheme with black accents carries over intact. The machine can revert to its Shinkansen Mode at will.
Beyond generating an Evangelion-style A.T. Field, it wields an array of armaments including the Kaisatsu Trident 500 TYPE EVA and the Missile Shield 500 TYPE EVA.

Shinji Ikari pilots the unit. When the mysterious Kingshitoel materializes near Tokyo-3 and holds off Hayato Hayasugi's Shinkalion E5 Hayabusa behind its A.T. Field, Shinji arrives to reinforce him. Borrowing Hayato's turnstile sword, Shinji merges it with his own weapon, launches a missile barrage as a distraction, then uses his machine's A.T. Field to drive the combined weapon into the diamond above the Angel's head. With the barrier stripped away, Hayato's Gran Cross annihilates the enemy.
The film restages this battle as a dream that ends before victory, with Hayato waking mid-fight. In the movie's climax, a weapon clash involving Valdor, Hayato, and Hayato's father draws Shinji and the 500 TYPE EVA out of a ball of light. A Signal Spear strike knocks Valdor into range of Snow Godzilla's atomic breath, setting up the finishing Ultimate Gran Cross from father and son. The visitors from other dimensions then return to their own worlds.
