Appearance

In his ordinary state Darius is a tall, tanned, heavily muscled man with cropped dark hair and thick sideburns. His chimera fusion with a gorilla lets him swell into a broader, simian shape that stays upright and roughly human in outline, one of the most man-like of the beast transformations in the cast. Others needle him with nicknames such as Mr. Gorilla and Gorius, a jab at the ape-like features he carries even at rest.

Personality

Darius shares a temperament with his partner Heinkel: dry, gruff, and cynical, with no hangups about having been turned into a chimera and a readiness to shift allegiances when the moment calls for it. Guided heavily by his animal instincts, he tends to follow his gut whenever he is unsure, though he can override those urges when he must. For all his sarcasm, he comes across as a contented man who prizes real friendship and reliable company, and he embraces the perks his altered body grants rather than mourning what he lost.

History

Darius first turns up at Briggs, standing guard over Kimblee alongside the other chimeras. When Edward and Kimblee clash in a deserted mining town, Ed shields him and Heinkel from collapsing rubble, and in gratitude the pair free him from an impaling pipe and pledge their help. After Ed recovers at a North City clinic, the trio head for Central, where they meet Ling Yao, watch him give way to Greed, and forge an alliance. Following the later time-skip, a running battle in the Kanama slums pits them against Pride, who holds Alphonse hostage, and Darius takes on Gluttony in his beast form until Lan Fan and Fu turn the tide.

Once Scar, Dr. Marcoh, and the other chimeras regroup with them, old suspicions that Darius and Heinkel still answered to Kimblee are cleared up, and the human chimeras accept that they are better off among these new allies. Darius joins the push into Central and down into Father's lair, hacking through waves of near-invulnerable mannequin soldiers, even snatching up Barry the Chopper's cast-off cleaver when his strength flags, until Mustang burns the creatures away. He fights on through the final confrontation and helps free his friends when the rejected leadership candidates capture them. In the end he is pictured beside Heinkel and Yoki, apparently earning a living at a circus.
