Heinkel

In his everyday form Heinkel is tall and heavily built, sporting a mustache, slicked-back blond hair and glasses. His chimera side is a towering lion-man: a thick mane frames his face, claws extend from his hands, and his frame swells with extra muscle. That beast shape hands him a crushing bite, raking claws, and raw power enough to shatter rock with one blow, letting him trade hits with Pride. Sharpest of all are his senses; he picks out foes through heavy snowfall, sees well in the dark as a nocturnal predator would, and only rarely suffers when an overpowering odor floods his heightened nose.

Quiet and pragmatic, Heinkel drifts with the current rather than chasing grand goals of his own. He is content to follow, though never blindly, and switches sides readily when treated better, quick to grasp just how dire the threats to his country have grown. Being a chimera troubles him not at all; he counts it a benefit, and like Darius he leans on his animal instincts, acting on the hunches his senses feed him in the moment.

He first appears at Fort Briggs when Kimblee arrives, and during the effort to corner Scar he and Darius shadow the Elrics until the brothers wall them off. When Briggs troops move to kill Kimblee, the two chimera briefly scrap with Edward, who stuns them by venting ammonia from old dynamite tubes. After Kimblee detonates the mine shaft, they haul the wounded Ed to North City for treatment, then flee once a bank withdrawal tips off the military, steering toward Central to regroup with Ed's allies.

At Mustang's old safe house they find Ling Yao, who reverts to Greed; Ed persuades the Homunculus to take him and the chimera into his service. After the timeskip, on the eve of the Promised Day, the group meets Van Hohenheim in the Kanama slums and learns of his tie to Father. In the dark of a blacked-out Kanama, Heinkel pins Pride down until villagers arrive with a lantern, giving Pride the opening to maul him badly. He is forced to withdraw, apologizing for failing to finish the little bastard, and later agrees to guard the earthen dome trapping Pride and Al.

Hearing Pride tap out Morse code through Al's helmet, Heinkel rushes to stop it and is fatally ambushed by Kimblee. As Pride breaks free, Al shields Heinkel at the cost of his own legs, and the dying chimera passes the armored boy the first Philosopher's Stone taken from Kimblee. Healed later by Tim Marcoh, Heinkel bites Kimblee's neck to incapacitate him and uses the body as both shield and thrown weapon against Pride. He is the only chimera whose soul Father absorbs, and Hohenheim's counterstrike revives him. In the epilogue a photo shows him working a circus alongside Darius and Yoki.
