Gataro

A wide pirate hat crowns him, and a red trench coat drapes his figure, thrown over a ruffled white shirt, a green vest, brown trousers, and grey gloves. Messy brown waves hang to his shoulders. Three purple markings decorate his face: one beneath each eye, plus a third that traces the ridge of his nose, with a scar sitting on either cheek. A thin, rapier-like blade rests in the sash tied at his waist.

Cruelty comes easily to Gataro, who feels no loyalty even toward his own men. Crews that haul in too little plunder become targets, and he will turn on them purely to shake off his boredom. While waiting for the Konoha ship to surface, he entertained himself by ordering a strike on whichever of his vessels had salvaged the smallest haul. His laugh has an odd ring to it, closer to a bird's caw than any human sound.

Long before the events of the series, Gataro and his band seized a small, peaceful island, slaughtering most of its people and driving the few survivors underground, where they hid in secret for decades. Commanding a whole pirate fleet marks him as genuinely strong and a capable leader. In combat he handles his rapier-like blade with real skill, holding his own against a shinobi of Naruto Uzumaki's rank, and his close-quarters work is swift and forceful, once booting Naruto clean off the deck with a single kick to the chin. He is sharp-eyed enough to gauge a ninja's tricks almost at a glance.

His fleet ambushes a Konohagakure ship as it sails past the island, and thinking they have sunk it, he orders the nets lowered to gather the wreckage. When a raging Naruto charges him, Gataro disarms him with ease and seizes his forehead protector, then keeps pounding the water even after the ship reappears, revealed as a makeshift submarine that Yamato shaped with Wood Release. Naruto later returns, smashing the island's fixed cannons and facing the pirate again to reclaim his headband and avenge the slain islanders. As Gataro boasts that he will kill them the same way he killed the natives, the Konoha ship bursts from a towering geyser and slams a wall of water into his fleet. He ends up bound to a post beside his beaten crew as the Konoha ship sails away.
