Shiranami's father, Hato, once trained under En no Gyoja and stood guard over the Tsuchigumo clan's forbidden technique. His own son grew to surpass him and, amid the Third Shinobi World War, cut him down to claim that very art.
Hato's black hair stayed short and spiked upward. Grey dominated his dress: over a long-sleeved grey shirt and matching trousers he wore a silver sleeveless haori trimmed in grey, its leaf crest attesting that he was fit to handle the clan's kinjutsu. Dark bands wrapped each wrist, and he finished with black shinobi sandals.
According to Hotaru, Hato's command of ninjutsu was considerable. The Tsuchigumo clan's kinjutsu lay within his grasp, a technique potent enough to raze an entire village.
Under En no Gyoja, Hato learned the ways he would later hand down to his boy, Shiranami, whose talent eventually outstripped his own. Entrusted with safeguarding the Tsuchigumo forbidden art called Fury, he met his end in the Third Shinobi World War when Shiranami killed him to take it. In Japanese, his name simply voices the English word 'heart'.
