Izumi Uchiha

Izumi has onyx eyes and long brown hair, worn in a ponytail during her younger years, with bangs falling around her face and a small mole beneath her right eye. Her outfit is a high-collared purple shirt with long sleeves, the Uchiha crest across the back, paired with loose blue trousers. She keeps a shuriken holster strapped to her right leg, a red band on her left arm, and a purple fingerless glove that stretches almost the full length of her arm.

For an Uchiha, Izumi stood out as gentle and thoughtful. Her father's death left her wracked with guilt, and she resolved to grow strong enough to protect others as he had, a path that kept her clear of the Curse of Hatred that consumed so many of her kin. She distrusted the clan's leadership much as Itachi and Shisui did, yet still held deep pride and faith in her family, unwilling to believe any Uchiha would have unleashed Kurama and taken her father's life. The weight of wanting to help others pressed on her, and she agonised over falling behind Itachi, the yardstick against which she measured herself; his suggestion that she abandon the goal, born of her innocence and limits, plainly wounded her. Above all she loved Itachi completely, enough to accept his choice to end her life for the village and to feel grateful for the life she had always wanted with him, even one lived entirely inside an illusion.

Izumi was born to Hazuki Uchiha, though her father came from outside the clan, so for her earliest years the family lived apart from the rest of the Uchiha. He died shielding her during the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's attack, and the grief and self-blame that followed awakened her Sharingan, remarkably even before Itachi gained his own. She and her mother then returned to the clan. Enrolled at the Academy, Izumi grew fond of Itachi, trying to speak with him, walk home together, and shield him from classmates' jabs. He paid her little mind until he learned she had the Sharingan, after which he warmed toward her at their chance meetings. Their talks turned tense once when she pressed about the Uchiha's secret nighttime gatherings, which he was forbidden to discuss. Over shared meals and passing encounters she confided her fear of never measuring up to him, and revealed she wanted the ninja life partly to share the career of the person she cared for, a hint he failed to catch. After graduating to genin she began attending the clan's meetings herself and, like Itachi, recoiled from the Uchiha's mounting resentment toward Konoha. When the clan resolved on a coup and branded Itachi a traitor for opposing it, she followed him out and urged him to keep trying to reason with Fugaku, but he told her it was already too late. To spare both sides the slaughter of open war, Itachi set out to erase the clan in one night, and he chose Izumi as the first to fall. He entered her home, subdued her mother, and caught her in Tsukuyomi, where she lived out seventy years of an imagined life with him, from marriage and children to old age and her final illness, before collapsing and thanking him as she died. As a fighter she had awakened her Sharingan unusually early, though she could not sustain it, fainting whenever she called on it for lack of the necessary chakra, a weakness that lingered even as her graduation neared; the anime credits her with notably advanced taijutsu. That version of events also has her meeting Itachi earlier as a child, standing up for him when others bullied him, being carried to safety by him during the Fox's attack, and dying instead at the hands of the masked man while defending the Military Police headquarters.
