Kagerō

Though Kagerō is in truth a young woman, she keeps herself hidden inside the form of a stooped, hunchbacked man with jutting teeth, a disguise so ingrained that even being wounded cannot break it. Only when she casts the form off does her real shape emerge, and with it a set of four chakra wings that spread from her back.

Fierce loyalty defines Kagerō, both to her fellow Fūma and to Orochimaru, whom she regards as the one destined to lift her clan back to greatness. That devotion runs so deep she is willing to spend her own life on a single technique. She also carries a poet's streak, fond of likening herself to the short-lived mayfly, an image echoed in her name, and she recites verse before she strikes. She knows of the tie between Sasame and Arashi, and Sasame in turn treats her with marked respect.

The Fūma have roamed the Land of Rice Fields in search of a home after a war leaves them weakened, and when Orochimaru and Kimimaro promise to restore their strength in exchange for joining Otogakure, Kagerō agrees and goes with them. Posted to guard Orochimaru's base alongside Jigumo and Kamikiri, she ambushes Naruto and Sakura as they shelter in a temple with Sasame, using her Antlion technique to drag Naruto into a pit until Jiraiya's toad hauls him free and a Rasengan drives her off.

Wounded, she returns after Sasame drugs the Leaf ninja, only for the trap to be seen through; in the clash she sheds her male form to loose her once-in-a-lifetime blast, which Jiraiya smothers, and she flees carrying her comrades. When the two beg the disguised Arashi to heal her, he kills them but mends Kagerō. She later corners Sakura while masquerading as Kabuto Yakushi and tries to finish Naruto by linking their heartbeats and stilling her own, but Sakura severs the connecting chakra threads with a seal from Sasame. Dying at last, Kagerō warns Sasame of how far Arashi has strayed.
