History

After pulling a drowning Inari to safety, Kaiza took the boy under his wing, teaching him to defend what he treasured with his own two arms, and married Inari's mother Tsunami to become his stepfather and role model. When floodwaters threatened the village, he swam through a current no ordinary person could survive to shut the gate, earning the town's admiration.

That same defiance made him a target once Gato seized control. Unable to break him, Gato had his men sever Kaiza's arms in a cruel mockery of his motto and put him to death before a crowd, with Inari forced to watch. His stand went unmatched, and the people bowed to Gato's rule for years afterward, valuing their lives over their pride. Only much later, when Inari meets Naruto, does Kaiza's courage pass on through the boy to the rest of the Land of Waves.
