History

Fifty years before the story opens, Kōza and his forces were hemmed in by a rival army that cut down most of his men. Resigned to dying by nightfall, he summoned Shiromari as a final weapon to take his enemies with him, but he fell before he could release the creature. Left unbound, Shiromari took on the shape of the ruined castle and devoured anyone who wandered inside. The steady stream of disappearances eventually drew Konohagakure's notice, and when Naruto Uzumaki, Hinata Hyūga, and Kiba Inuzuka arrived to investigate, Kōza returned as a spirit to lead them to the summoning contract so that they could free Shiromari from its castle form.
