Kurobane

Kurobane is fair-skinned and stands quite tall, with a lengthy face and eyes set in a narrow line. He grows out his purple hair and twists it into a single ponytail, which loops down his back, while a band of white cloth wraps his forehead. For clothing he favours green robes worn over black trousers.

Kurobane is a frigid, sadistic man who takes genuine pleasure in drawing suffering and screams out of his victims. He feels no bond with his own countrymen, gladly killing students when his master orders it and shrugging off the thought of them perishing in an epidemic that could have been prevented.

Kurobane and his brother rise into the elite assassins who serve the daimyō of the Land of Calm Seas. Their usual work is to silence anyone who crosses him, breaking victims until they confess to invented crimes that carry a public execution. As a shinobi Kurobane is brutally effective, gifted in tracking and interrogation and skilled with Water Release, whose Hiding in Mist Technique lets him blanket a whole area. He can spin ambient moisture into an illusory fog that saps the water from an enemy's body, leaving them withered like dried shells, and his own blood serves as a medium through which he steers weapons from a safe distance.

When an epidemic sweeps the Land of Calm Seas and a medical-nin develops a fast, affordable cure, the money-hungry daimyō dispatches the brothers to wipe it out so his own costlier remedy keeps paying. One by one they hunt the medic's students, seizing each sample and killing its keeper, until only Mozuku remains, guarded by hired Konoha-nin. Kurobane grabs the samples and leaves Jujumaru to finish the job, but Kawaki and Mozuku chase him down. He wraps them in his draining fog and strikes from cover, only for Kawaki to see through the trick and scatter the mist with a blow. He still puppets his sword against Kawaki, and Mozuku takes the fatal hit shielding him. Boruto and Shikadai then arrive, shatter the blade, cut off his escape, and leave Kawaki to beat him senseless.
