Appearance

Pochi is a little dog. As drawn in the colour edition of the manga, most of his coat is beige, with a darker tail and brows set against black eyes and a black nose. The anime recolours him instead with white fur across the body and black markings on the eyes, ears, tail, brows, and nose.

Personality

Whatever bond Pochi once shared with Inari did not survive the boy's moment of cowardice. After Inari froze rather than come to his aid, the dog simply walked off, its attachment to its former owner gone.

History

Inari treasured Pochi as his sole companion until Akane stole the dog and rechristened him Shooting Star. Growing tired of the animal, Akane hurled him into the sea. Though dogs usually paddle at once, Pochi began to sink, and Inari, unable to summon the nerve to jump in, was shoved into the water by Akane. Only as Inari himself started to go under did Pochi finally discover how to swim, after which the dog climbed out and left, holding no fondness for the boy who had faltered. The name Pochi, fittingly, is a stock choice for dogs in Japan.
