Ranmaru is an orphan out of Kirigakure, born with an unusual dojutsu. For much of his tale he serves the rogue swordsman Raiga, and once that chapter closes he settles into a new life, taking up an apprenticeship inside the Curry of Life Shop.
Purple hair of about chin length, split down the middle, surrounds a face that strikes many as faintly feminine. Whenever his dojutsu switches on, his red eyes light up. His usual outfit is a pale purple shirt striped in black along each side, worn with a waist sash, dark trousers, and sandals.
By his own reckoning, Ranmaru rates his dojutsu above even the Byakugan. Its loosely defined gifts grant extrasensory perception, so he can watch and listen to events playing out across great distances, pull the hidden thoughts from a person's mind, and foresee a string of oncoming blows. Beyond chakra, he perceives the very life force within a body, letting him judge at a glance whether someone lives or has died. His eyes cast genjutsu so overpowering that recognising the illusion brings no escape, and against rival dojutsu like the Byakugan he can raise a red dust that clouds their view of chakra. Most striking of all, he can channel a portion of his own life force into someone barely clinging to life and draw them back from death.
Born frail, Ranmaru scraped by on food from nearby farmers until his eyes accidentally marked him as abnormal, at which point the villagers cut off his meals and left him bitterly alone. Raiga, passing through on a mission and meaning to kill the boy, instead lifted him onto his back once Ranmaru sensed the grief locked inside him. Hidden beneath the swordsman's cloak, he lent his sight to Raiga's fighting and quietly observed the Mist's Seven Ninja Swordsmen. After Raiga turned rogue, the two seized a mining town, forced its people to labour, and drew in followers like Karashi, assembling the Kurosuki family. Gentle and soft-spoken, Ranmaru clung to a fierce devotion toward the man who had opened the world to him.
When Team Guy and Naruto Uzumaki arrive to bring down that family, Ranmaru is knocked clear of Raiga, whose despair lets Naruto send him over a cliff. Confessing his past, the boy begs to die, but the Konoha ninja instead carry him off to recover. He later revives a near-dead Raiga at nearly the cost of his own life, and Tenten nurses him back to health, insisting he has no right to discard a life others were denied. In the end his attempt to steer Raiga toward an atoning death unravels, and Raiga, understanding that the child can never be free while tied to him, holds his own funeral. Released at last, Ranmaru signs on as an apprentice within the Curry of Life Shop.

We ranked the six most popular women of Naruto from worst to first, and our number one is going to start a fight. The official poll got it wrong....

The transformation everyone knows, the follow-up question nobody would touch. Why we made a smooth R&B track about the golden glow Dragon Ball never talks about....
Ranmaru's kekkei genkai is an unnamed dojutsu that he rates above even the Byakugan. It grants him extrasensory perception, letting him watch events at a distance, read hidden thoughts, foresee attacks, and sense whether someone is alive or dead.
Ranmaru's eye lights up red when active and casts genjutsu so overpowering that recognizing the illusion brings no escape. Against rival dojutsu like the Byakugan, he can also raise a red dust that clouds their view of chakra, and he can channel his own life force into someone near death to pull them back.
Ranmaru was knocked clear of Raiga when Team Guy and Naruto Uzumaki came to bring down the Kurosuki family, and he confessed his past and begged to die before the Konoha ninja carried him off to recover. After reviving a near dead Raiga at great cost to himself, he was nursed back to health by Tenten and eventually took up an apprenticeship at the Curry of Life Shop.
Ranmaru was fiercely devoted to Raiga, the rogue swordsman who took him in after sensing the grief locked inside him. Ranmaru served as Raiga's eyes and ears while Raiga acted as his body, and together the two seized a mining town and formed the Kurosuki family.
After Raiga chose to end his own life, freeing Ranmaru from their bond, Ranmaru signed on as an apprentice within the Curry of Life Shop.
