Taruho

Brown hair falls to about shoulder length on Taruho, and his navy blue eyes lack visible pupils. Red rectangular spectacles sit on his face. His outfit is traditional Japanese wear: over a collared kimono jacket in white and soft purple he layers a green vest and grey armour, with purple hakama below, sandals, and a black eboshi crowning his head. A quiver is slung across his back.

His devotion to Shion runs so deep that he would gladly give his life for her, tending to her every need and absorbing her constant grumbling and seeming ingratitude without complaint, even apologising when she discards food she herself insisted on. That loyalty is rooted in genuine concern for her welfare rather than blind obedience: when she tries to leave her escort behind, he calmly disregards her command and stays at her side. Because her death-predicting visions have always held true, he trusts them completely and grasps the reasons behind her pampered, prickly manner, which lets him accept it all.

Though never trained as a ninja, Taruho carries a jian and a bow with arrows like Shion's other guards, and he holds off Gitai briefly with a blade and looses a warning shot to stop Naruto's group. He lacks a shinobi's speed and stamina, needing rest after running where they press on for days. His one unusual skill is the Shadow Mirror Body Changing Method, a permanent version of the Transformation Technique that lets him act as a convincing double.

In the Land of Demons he is among the guards defending Shion's home when Yomi's Gang of Four attacks. He tries to spirit her to safety while Naruto Uzumaki distracts the assailants, but the pair are cornered and nearly killed until Neji Hyūga arrives. After Shion foretells that Naruto will die battling the demon Mōryō, Taruho explains her gift, noting that all one hundred of her past death-predictions came to pass. When Shion slips away early with Naruto's team, Taruho follows and later tells Naruto how her lethal visions left her shunned and isolated as a child. Shion warns him that a fresh vision shows him dying if he stays, yet he refuses to leave. He eventually uses the Shadow Mirror technique to take on Shion's form for good, standing in as a decoy so the real priestess can be moved to safety. While Sakura carries the disguised Taruho, Kusuna's Secret Anaesthesia fells her, and the exposed Taruho is slain by Kusuna's Dark Medicine before being given a proper burial.
