Tōu

Black hair sits above a pair of yellow eyes on Tōu, who wears a short-sleeved red shirt over trousers. Bandages cover each forearm, a yellow band encircles each knee, and the sash of the Twelve Guardian Ninja circles her waist.

Membership in the Twelve Guardian Ninja placed Tōu among the Land of Fire's strongest kunoichi, trusted enough to serve as a direct guard to the daimyo. Lightning was her elemental affinity, and by taking one of the four cardinal points alongside Kitane, Seito, and Nauma she could join in Limelight, a jutsu that reduces all within its bounds to ash.

In life Tōu belonged to the Twelve Guardian Ninja. A decade before the series opens, six of its members launched a coup, and she stood against them beside Asuma Sarutobi, Chiriku, Nauma, Kitane, and Seito, only for Kazuma to slay her when she and three fellow survivors attempted Limelight against him. Long after, grave robbers made off with the corpses of Kitane, Nauma, Seito, and Tōu and brought them back through lightning. Asuma, having unraveled the robbers' plan, confronted the revived quartet, who acted like puppets stripped of mind. Trailing heavy surges of lightning, Tōu advanced on a hidden spot to set up her portion of Limelight, but the moment Asuma killed Kitane, Kazuma's scheme collapsed and he dismissed the summoned trio of Seito, Nauma, and Tōu.
