Udon Ise

Round glasses and a nose that never quite stops running are what set Udon apart at first glance. His hair is brown and kept short above dark eyes. Back in his Academy days he zipped up a plain blue shirt, paired it with brown trousers and sandals, and wore goggles to mark his place in the Konohamaru Ninja Squad.

Reaching genin rank brought a growth spurt, a black top, blue pants, and a swap from goggles to the village headband. Years afterward his look shifts again: he drops the headband for everyday wear, styles his hair into a pompadour, and trades his round frames for rectangular ones. On active duty he straps the protector back on and wears a long-sleeved flak jacket over navy blue.

The young Udon came across as mellow and softly spoken, forever looking half-asleep and quietly scribbling equations because numbers genuinely delighted him. Adulthood sharpens him into a level-headed, direct thinker whose eye for detail lets him notice when someone is behaving oddly or has fallen under an illusion.

As a mentor he runs a demanding but even-handed classroom and will discipline pupils whose slip-ups could have carried a real cost. His students consider him effortlessly cool and were startled to learn how clumsy he had been as a boy.

Udon spent his Academy years doubting himself, repeatedly failing to graduate because the Clone Technique kept defeating him. Alongside Konohamaru Sarutobi and Moegi Kazamatsuri he trailed after Naruto Uzumaki, and the trio turned up around the Chunin Exams before crossing paths with the Suna siblings Temari and Kankuro. Once he passed, he learned cooperation ninjutsu with his squad, though a run of botched missions left him feeling like dead weight.

In Part II his team fell under Ebisu's supervision, and Udon stood among the villagers helping evacuate during Pain's assault on Konoha. When the Infinite Tsukuyomi bound the world, he was caught by the Ten-Tails' roots until Naruto and Sasuke ended the war and freed everyone; he later mourned at the village's mass funeral and helped set up Naruto and Hinata's wedding.

In the years that follow he becomes an Academy teacher and takes charge of Team 5, guiding Iwabee Yuino, Denki Kaminarimon, and Metal Lee. He rebukes Iwabee for recklessly charging the Byakuya Gang against orders, and during Mitsuki's disappearance he sees through Yurito's lie and recognizes the man is trapped in genjutsu moments before an explosive clay charge detonates. Fifteen years after the Fourth Shinobi World War he has risen to jonin, weaponizing the water tendrils he draws from his own mucus.
