Konohamaru briefs Naruto, Sai, and Shikamaru on the mission and turns over the airship data, then raises the matter of Kawaki, a boy carrying the same Karma mark as Boruto. Before letting him into Konoha, they hold him for study at Katasuke's institute in Ryutan. Naruto frets over a child being hunted by Kara, while the others focus on his violent streak. Konohamaru also notes that Koji Kashin was seen using the Rasengan. At the facility, Kawaki is confined and cuffed in a room as Akita and Katasuke pass along what they have gathered about him.

Warned that the guardian creature Nue may react badly to Kawaki, Katasuke fills the sealed room with sleeping gas after the boy fails to force the reinforced door. As he sleeps, Kawaki dreams of Jigen and his adoptive father. Waking to a meal brought by Team 7 and Sumire, he kicks it away, certain it is poisoned. Sumire tells him where he is, then the group leaves. Kawaki asks to use the bathroom and pockets a smoke-flash bomb lifted from a scientist, using the device to slip out through a ventilation duct.

The alarm sounds as Kawaki flees. Blaming herself for having mentioned the scientific ninja tools on site, Sumire runs into him and tries to hold him down, only to be overpowered by a shinobi gauntlet. Nue lunges and gashes his arm, and Kawaki tears free, escaping the building while leaving a trail of blood behind. This installment belongs to the Kawaki Arc and is not drawn from a specific manga chapter. It aired in Japan on March 14, 2021, and in English on January 10, 2023, with the opening BAKU and the ending Answers.
