Hospital Besieged: The Evil Hand Revealed!

Baki pounds on the door where Kankuro and Temari are staying, scolding the pair for losing track of Gaara. When they check his room, their brother is nowhere to be found. Naruto, meanwhile, comes to after three days out cold and learns the exam finals fall on the next day.

Shikamaru brings him a fruit basket meant for Choji, who is laid up after gorging himself into an upset stomach. Sakura swaps out the flowers in Lee's room, and Ino soon turns up at Choji's bedside with a basket of her own as he groans about being hungry.

Gaara steals into Lee's room to finish off the sleeping boy, only for Naruto and Shikamaru to block him at once. Bound by Shikamaru's shadow, Gaara lets slip pieces of his history: a sand spirit called Shukaku was sealed inside him at birth, and he was made purely to serve as his village's weapon. When he grew too erratic, his own father kept sending killers after him, and he came to feel he could do nothing now but wound others.

Naruto feels the parallel, carrying a beast of his own. Gaara moves to kill both of them, but Guy strides in and orders him out. Forced to withdraw, Gaara leaves them with a vow to slaughter every one of them.

The episode adapts chapters 96 and 97 and sits inside the Chunin Exams arc. It marks one of the earliest windows into Gaara's tailed-beast burden and the abuse behind his cruelty, seeding his later bond with Naruto.
