Kabuto Yakushi

Kabuto recalls the days when the Konoha Orphanage took in wounded shinobi, tasking him with tending to an injured Orochimaru. Impressed by the boy's skill, Orochimaru asked whether he wished to become a shinobi, and Kabuto declined, saying the work held no appeal for him. One night, Nonō was confronted at the orphanage by Danzō, who arrived with Orochimaru and Tatsuma Aburame. Danzō pressured her into accepting an intelligence-gathering assignment in Iwagakure, to the distress of the other caretakers.

Kabuto too is drawn into service, sent to infiltrate the villages of the Five Great Shinobi Countries. On a mission in Iwagakure he crosses paths with Nonō, whom he gravely wounds. As he tries to heal her, she stuns him by admitting she no longer remembers who he is. Puzzling over how she could forget him, Kabuto is once again sought out by Orochimaru. Trailing him to a hidden island laboratory, Kabuto learns that Root intends to eliminate both him and Nonō.

This is episode 336 of Naruto Shippūden, part of the Fourth Shinobi World War: Climax arc, adapting chapters 583 and 584. Confronted with Root's plan to discard him, Kabuto chooses to align himself with Orochimaru and become his personal spy. Later, after Orochimaru's death, Kabuto injects himself with blood taken from the remains, part of his search for what he calls his true self. The episode uses the opening theme Size of the Moon and the ending theme Black Night Town.
