Pain to the World

Across the village, the Leaf's defenders trade blows with Pain's bodies. Tsume and Kiba, backed by their ninken, strike at the Preta Path, which shields itself using the first Animal Path before slipping away. Shino fights alongside his father and a fellow Aburame against Konan and her explosive paper clones. On the Hokage rooftop, the Deva Path arrives to speak with Tsunade, who recognises Yahiko's face from the Ame Orphans she once met. Their clashing beliefs about peace lead nowhere, and Pain bristles at her refusal to hand over the Nine-Tails.

Below, Ino, Inoichi and Shizune probe the mystery of the Six Paths until the Human Path appears and drains Shizune's soul, learning from her mind that Naruto is training at Mount Myoboku. With that location exposed, the Animal Path summons Konan and the remaining Paths to the forest outside the walls.

At Mount Myoboku, Gamatama reports that the messenger toad Kosuke has died, his name gone from the register, and a worried Fukasaku orders Naruto to prepare while arranging for the mountain's toad forces to be summoned to Konoha. In the village, Tsunade insists the Leaf has already suffered its share of pain, which only enrages Pain further. Vowing the village will know true suffering for Yahiko's death, he shuts down his other five bodies and channels their power into a massive Shinra Tensei that flattens Konoha into an enormous crater. Katsuyu shields Sakura, who weeps amid the wreckage and calls out for Naruto. On cue, he descends in Sage Mode with Fukasaku and a squad of toads at his side.

This 162nd episode of Naruto: Shippuden belongs to the Pain's Assault arc and covers chapters 427 through 430. It aired in Japan on 27 May 2010 and in English on 8 January 2013. The opening theme is A World That Was Transparent and the ending theme is Bicycle.
