At Mount Myoboku, Gerotora explains that Jiraiya wished the key to the Eight Trigrams Seal handed to Naruto, trusting that Minato meant for his son to command the Nine-Tails fully. The Great Toad Sage chooses to summon Naruto first, saying the whole matter rests on their conversation. Elsewhere, a recovered Tsunade devours everything in sight to rebuild her chakra and hold onto her youth, and a relieved Kakashi admits he never felt fit for the office of Hokage. She is stunned that the Raikage and Tsuchikage agreed to the alliance, which Kakashi credits to the danger Madara poses.

Under interrogation, Karin describes her treatment at the hands of Orochimaru and Sasuke; Ibiki stays cold, but the others soften and weep for her, and she bargains her cooperation for food. Watching the villagers laugh and go about their lives, she is reminded of Naruto. Far off, Madara urges a healing Sasuke to adjust to Itachi's transplanted eyes, which Sasuke says already fill him with fresh strength.

Back in the village Naruto is mobbed with praise, and Team Ebisu, blaming their own newspaper piece for swelling his head, chase him down, with Konohamaru even matching his shadow clones through the Harem Technique. Naruto shakes them off and heads for the relocated Ichiraku. Shikamaru, recalling how the fox stirred when Naruto believed Hinata dead, accepts that the Konoha 11 must guard Naruto from both the Akatsuki and the beast inside him. As Naruto finally sits down to ramen, he is reverse-summoned to Mount Myoboku, where the sage foretells a meeting with an octopus and a clash with someone whose power flows from his eyes. Reading it as Sasuke, Naruto affirms his resolve, and the satisfied sage has Gerotora surrender the seal's key, which Naruto hesitates to accept.
