Sasuke Retsuden: The Secret in the Cellar

In the cell block, the inmates discover Meno is drawn to the scent of almonds, and using a branch from Ganno they coax the beast close enough to pet. The game sours when Penjira's foot drifts past the cell line, angering Meno over the broken rule, and spilled lantern oil scalds the creature into fleeing. The next day Sakura meets the messenger Fundaru, learning he knows only that he must ask Zansuru about a certain progress, then draws out details about his history with the director before delivering him to Sasuke, who knocks him out with his Sharingan.

Exploiting a weakness Sakura identified, the narrow field of vision in Zansuru's artificial eye at steep angles, Sakura takes on Fundaru's form and meets the director while a disguised Sasuke poses as the messenger's cane. She stalls, buying Sasuke the time to trace the keyhole using chakra and shape a matching key with Earth Release. Zansuru reveals only that he means to ship his assets to the capital, refusing to name numbers. Sasuke reaches the cellar and, past another door, finds a bizarre collection of chickens and fossils, plus an altar that leads him to suspect Zansuru is reviving the fossils through Impure World Reincarnation.

Meno attacks, and Sasuke notices that the wound it took the night before still has not healed and that it bears no control tag despite obeying Zansuru, forcing him to revise his theory while still leaning toward a reincarnation technique. After soothing his own burn with supercooled water via a shadow clone, Sasuke lets Meno bite him, reaches in to grasp its tongue, and floods it with chakra to override the genjutsu binding it. The now-affectionate beast submits to him, while at the altar someone raises still more fossils for Zansuru, who dreams of an army of dragon beasts.
