The Jinchūriki's Tears

Baki orders Sunagakure's shinobi to detonate the explosive tags hidden in the wreckage of Sasori's trap, and soon after a report reaches him that Kankurō has been located. Though his wounds are not severe, Kankurō is dying from a poison Suna's medical-nin cannot identify or cure, and he manages to name Sasori of the Red Sand as his attacker. Baki heads to the village's edge to seek the aid of the Honoured Siblings against Akatsuki. There Lady Chiyo tells him she and her brother have long been retired and cut off from the world, musing that a journey outside might let her see her grandson again, only for Baki to reveal that grandson, Sasori, is the Akatsuki member who seized Gaara and by extension Shukaku.

On the road to Sunagakure, Naruto breaks from Kakashi and Sakura to push ahead. The group encounters Temari walking home, brief her on the crisis, and she joins them. When Sakura tries to slow Naruto, he insists there is no time to lose and shares a secret he thinks she may already suspect: he carries the spirit of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox, a truth that leaves Temari stunned.

Kankurō is found alive but poisoned beyond Suna's ability to treat, and he identifies Sasori as the culprit. Baki recruits the retired Chiyo by revealing her grandson's role in Akatsuki, drawing her back toward the conflict and the coming pursuit of Gaara.

Naruto opens up to his teammates about the Nine-Tails within him and how his path mirrors Gaara's. Both grew up feared and isolated as hosts of tailed beasts, yet Naruto found bonds that pulled him from the darkness while Gaara did not, and Naruto resolves not to let him suffer this time. Temari silently thanks him, and Sakura admits she already knows of Itachi's place in Akatsuki, of Orochimaru's designs on Sasuke as a vessel, and vows to stand and protect them both when the time comes.

The episode adapts chapters 251 and 252 within the Kazekage Rescue Mission arc. It reintroduces Chiyo and her connection to Sasori, a bond that becomes pivotal later in the arc, and it deepens the parallel the series draws between Naruto and Gaara as jinchūriki shaped by loneliness. Sakura's reflections on Orochimaru's six-month limit before needing a new body foreshadow developments in Sasuke's storyline.
