The Kazekage Stands Tall

Having cleared the bell test, Naruto and Sakura are placed by Tsunade into the freshly assembled Team Kakashi under Kakashi's command. On the way home the two head for Ramen Ichiraku and ask Kakashi to treat them, but Jiraiya appears to warn that Akatsuki is on the move and remind Kakashi that Naruto is once again in his charge before departing. Kakashi excuses himself as well, leaving the pair on their own. With just the two of them, Naruto wonders aloud whether the meal counts as a date, and Sakura replies it might if he pays, though Naruto cannot cover both bowls.

Over in Sunagakure, Gaara catches Deidara's left arm in his sand and crushes it with the Sand Binding Coffin, to the delight of the watching Suna shinobi. Recognising that Gaara's ultimate defence comes from the chakra-laced sand in his gourd, Deidara switches tactics and sets his sights on leveling the village itself. Baki worries the assault could draw Shukaku out and doom everyone in Suna, but Kankurō reassures him that Gaara would never endanger his own people.

Tsunade formally establishes Team Kakashi with Naruto, Sakura, and Kakashi, and Jiraiya's warning underscores the growing Akatsuki threat. The lighthearted ramen scene contrasts with the escalating danger facing Sunagakure.

Gaara disables Deidara's arm and protects the village, prompting Kankurō to recall how Gaara once shared his dream of becoming Kazekage to earn the bonds and respect of his people, a change of heart he credits to Naruto. As Sunagakure evacuates civilians and rallies to support its Kazekage, Deidara responds by forming a huge C3 bomb from the last of his explosive clay and dropping it onto the village.

The episode adapts chapter 249 and continues the Kazekage Rescue Mission arc. It deepens Gaara's arc from feared jinchūriki to beloved leader through Kankurō's recollections, tying his transformation back to his encounter with Naruto. A noted animation inconsistency has the moon appearing at many different sizes across the episode, with the cloud cover shifting frequently and even passing behind it at one point.
