The Underworld Transfer Jutsu

On one side of a barrier, Neji, Shikamaru, Chōji, Kiba, and Akamaru regroup to take stock of their plight, while on the other their comrades struggle to understand what has gone wrong. Finding that the group remains alive yet locked in a kind of suspended state with faint pulses and sluggish chakra, Shino and Ino do what they can to keep the chakra moving and ask that headquarters be alerted. Inside the barrier raised by the Sound Four, the Konoha ninja fight once more for their survival. Word then comes from Inoichi that the trapped shinobi are caught in something resembling a genjutsu, and that the only rescue lies in somehow finding and drawing back their souls, since even the sensory barrier at headquarters cannot pinpoint them.

Away from the barrier, Naruto races toward his friends and runs into a band of ninja, dispatching a transformed White Zetsu Army clone among them. Confirming no further enemies remain and no Communications Team members are present, he presses on. Although the Konoha ninja seem to hold the advantage against the Sound Four, their foes rally and declare the effort hopeless against immortals, warning that even a defeat would not free anyone from the barrier. The trapped shinobi are left with a grim choice: fall to their enemies or let their bodies in the waking world finally fail and die.

The Sound Four's barrier leaves several Konoha shinobi in suspended animation with their souls separated from their bodies. Shino and Ino work to sustain their comrades' chakra, and Inoichi explains that only recovering their souls can save them. Naruto destroys a disguised White Zetsu clone while rushing to help. The reincarnated Sound Four reveal that no victory can free the trapped ninja from the barrier.

The episode is part of the Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation arc and draws on the reincarnated Sound Four as antagonists. It airs under the opening If and the ending Goodbye Memory. A visual note recolors Ino's eyes green in this installment to align with the manga's depiction.
