The Vengeful

The hunt for their comrades' missing souls grows desperate, with Shino and Ino straining to hold on and keep the empty bodies from failing. Inside the barrier, the fight continues between the resurrected Sound Four and the former members of the Sasuke Recovery Team. Out on the battlefield, Naruto at last reaches headquarters after locating a member of the Communications Team, only to hear that nothing can be done, since no one in the Allied Shinobi Forces has the ability to sense souls.

Frustrated, Naruto rounds on Shikaku for what looks like indifference toward his own son's fate. The chief strategist answers that his role demands a clear head so he can direct the entire alliance, and he refuses to let emotion cloud his command.

Within the barrier, the Konoha ninja grow more bewildered as Shikamaru keeps needling their enemies rather than fighting cleanly. The Sound Four's aim finally surfaces: convinced that Orochimaru brought them back, they have drawn tremendous strength from a will bent on vengeance. That very hatred proves their downfall, for as it swells it leaks beyond the barrier, giving Naruto a way to lock onto their exact position.

Grasping the purpose behind Shikamaru's provocations, Naruto forms a massive Rasenshuriken outside the barrier and tears it open, releasing the captured souls to return to their waiting bodies.

The alliance rejoices to see their fallen comrades restored and well. Even so, Naruto is left uneasy, sensing that bitter, negative emotions still linger across the whole battlefield. The episode belongs to the Fourth Shinobi World War: Confrontation arc of Naruto Shippuden.
