Truth (episode 458)

Carrying out an Akatsuki assignment, Itachi picks up word of his brother's condition and of a boy named Naruto. He discovers that Sasuke has awakened his Sharingan and picked up the Chidori under Kakashi, and on a later occasion he presses Naruto on how he would weigh Konoha's safety against Sasuke's. With that recollection finished, the scene returns to the battlefield, where the glow of the Infinite Tsukuyomi dims and Sasuke lowers the protective Susanoo shell around himself.

Madara touches down and berates the survivors, laying out why he judges Hashirama's ideals to be broken, but before he can press on, Black Zetsu drives a strike straight through his heart. Reeling in disbelief, Madara begins to swell as enormous volumes of chakra pour toward him. Naruto and Sasuke scramble to derail the scheme while Black Zetsu reveals he has anticipated this instant for ages and that it fulfils the will of Kaguya Otsutsuki. When Naruto frets that the surging chakra will kill everyone, Black Zetsu explains that Kaguya once used the same power to spare rather than slay, forging soldiers instead, and that the humans trapped in her genjutsu gradually became the White Zetsu Army. Madara demands to know why the tablet promised the technique would end all war, then grasps in horror that Black Zetsu had altered the writing and that he was only ever an instrument. Dwelling on his errors as he is consumed, Madara is at last supplanted by the reborn Kaguya.
