Tsunade's Warning: Ninja No More!

Watching his late grandfather's belongings being cleared from the Hokage's office to make room for the Fifth, Konohamaru grows heavy-hearted. He bolts up the Academy stairs to stop the movers and slams face-first into a statue of Tsunade, and moments later Naruto barrels in and topples him while asking whether an older woman has passed through, since she is meant to heal his wounded comrades. Learning that this woman is the new Fifth Hokage, Konohamaru breaks into inconsolable tears. Tsunade soon arrives at the hospital to tend to Sasuke Uchiha, Kakashi Hatake, and Rock Lee.

She restores both Sasuke and Kakashi before turning to Lee, and her examination brings unwelcome news. Some of his injuries run too deep, she tells him with regret, and the surgery that might repair them carries such slim odds of survival that his career as a shinobi may have to end. Absorbing the diagnosis, Lee steps out of the room to sit with the weight of what she has said.

The 98th episode of the original Naruto series belongs to the Search for Tsunade arc and adapts chapters 172 and 173. The gag of Konohamaru colliding with Tsunade's bust was cut from the edited English dub. It first aired 25 August 2004 in Japan and 28 July 2007 in English, with GO!!! as the opening and Meteor as the ending.
