Konoha Barrier Team

The Konoha Barrier Team, also called the Sensor Team, keeps watch over the detection field that encloses the Hidden Leaf. Its duties cover maintaining that boundary, spotting anyone who crosses it, and moving to stop them. Leadership of the unit falls to the Yamanaka Clan.

The team splits into two branches. The Detection Division holds three members robed like Shinto priests, stationed on the lower floor of a two-level chamber around a sphere that mirrors the barrier; the one seated at the center senses each intrusion and its point of entry without even glancing at the orb. The Interception Division fields five members who pass idle hours in an upstairs lounge over tea and card games, then rush out to seize any intruder the instant an alarm sounds. At least one of them comes from the Hyuga clan.

The barrier itself forms a sphere covering the whole village, reaching into the sky and below ground, invisible to nearly everyone though Pain could perceive it through his Rinnegan. Long after the Fourth Shinobi World War, Ino Yamanaka and the Scientific Ninja Weapons Team rebuilt it into a fully automated system that logs every native chakra signature, with members now linked by a telepathic communication device. The upgrade is not flawless: Koji Kashin slips through unnoticed because his chakra matches the late Jiraiya's, and in the anime an infiltrator named Hyoi Yorishiro nearly fools the new system by copying a carpenter's chakra, only for Inojin Yamanaka to catch the irregularity and expose him.
