Personality

Playing the merchant, Gazelle seems bright and quick-witted, trading jokes with Frieren and cheerfully letting her bargain a fake vase down to a mere four silver coins. There is a more calculating side beneath the banter, though. He sizes up others fast and admits plainly that he would stand no chance against Stark in a fight. Before setting out on his mission he settles his bar tab with Wolf, explaining that he would rather not die owing anything, a remark that mixes grim fatalism with a certain scruple.

History

Gazelle is a regular at the bar Wolf keeps, where he has run up a hefty tab of at least four silver coins. With the planned killing of Serie drawing near, he stops in to clear that debt, citing a bad feeling about the job and his wish to die free of obligations; Wolf tells him not to tempt fate with such talk. As a Shadow Warrior he can be expected to excel at strength, speed, mana suppression, and combat against mages, yet he rates himself no match for Stark. His mana detection is a weaker point: he never noticed the traces Frieren had quietly left on the silver coins she handed him in payment.
