Goddess of Creation

Across every depiction since the mythical age, the Goddess of Creation appears as a small, pointed-eared woman. Her long hair tumbles past her waist in curls, crowned by a ring of flowers. She wears a sleeveless dress reaching to the calf that flares into three petal-shaped panels, its pleated bodice rising into a broad collar and its skirt traced with winding vines and finished in brocade and lace. Laced black shoes climb her calves, a jeweled belt crosses her waist, and two short trains trail from her back like wings. Most striking of all are the great feathered wings spanning from her shoulders to her feet, included in even the simplest carving of her.

Many hold the Goddess responsible for creating the world, though by Frieren's account she has not shown herself since the mythical era. Tradition credits her with enchanting ten stone monuments and scattering them across the continent, with granting humanity the Sword of the Hero, and with delivering the Holy Scriptures roughly fifteen hundred years ago. Her worship reaches back to that same age, the sole era in which she is thought to have appeared, and it has carried forward through scriptures, monuments, icons, and local rites, with burial the customary way to honor the dead.

The ten monuments serve as gathering places where the faithful pray for fortune, and statues of the Goddess stand in some churches. Along the roads of the Central Lands, small stone markers reminiscent of dosojin draw offerings of fruit, nuts, and grain. Believers also fashion her image into egg-shaped ornaments, winged wooden figures like the one Kraft carved for Fern, and pendants worn by a region's highest priests, while grimoires of the Holy Scripture often bear wings on their covers. Devoted monks, distinct from priests, live in remote monasteries and copy old manuscripts to keep the myths and texts alive.

The Goddess is held to be both all-knowing and all-powerful, with Serie, the Living Grimoire who commands nearly every spell known to humanity, reckoned the being closest to her in knowledge and might. The holy magic that priests practice bears her name and is believed to be her creation, ranging from healing to feats such as surviving two months without food, water, or air. Through her Blessing she grants chosen individuals a natural aptitude for that magic along with greater resistance to curses, a gift essential to casting it at all. Her power even reaches across time: at least one of her monuments can send a person's consciousness into the past, and the spell Vialathor, inscribed on the monument, returns the traveler to their own era before the relic's power fades for good.
