Neu

A tall man with silver hair, Neu wears the regulation Magic Special Forces outfit: a belted, collared tunic and trousers, a black ascot pinned with a gem, a caped collar, black gloves and boots, and an officer's cap bearing the unit's crest. At his side he keeps the issued sidearm, a baton-like bladed weapon with a curved guard that can also channel his spells.

Courteous to a fault, Neu apologizes readily, even for the wreckage he leaves behind in the old Imperial Square. He prefers to play fair, warning enemies before he strikes and steering away from anything underhanded, and Kanone notes that he normally holds for reinforcements when a fight looms. That restraint can give way to fury once he senses a real threat, however, and in combat he proves sharply analytical, quickly working out how Sorganeil functions.

During the Foundation Festival, Neu and Kanone are posted to protect dignitaries at a festival manor. Stumbling onto Übel and Land in a storeroom, Neu mistakes them for a couple and politely retreats, but he and Kanone soon sense the pair's strength; a bent academy badge left on the floor convinces them something is wrong, and they force the door only to find the room empty. While Kanone searches it, Neu gives chase, using mana warning signals to follow the trail and crushing Land's accompanying clone under a hunk of masonry with his telekinesis.

He pegs Übel as a foreigner the moment she fails to recognize the signals, and when she charges rather than surrender the two come to blows. Caught briefly in Übel's Sorganeil, Neu breaks the deadlock with a spell that robs her of sight and shuts down her mana sense, then forces Land into the open by threatening her life. With his colleague Weg, he hauls both captives off in an armored carriage. Later he reports the arrest to Kanone and takes a scolding for the damage he caused, but at the holding cell he discovers the prisoner is only another of Land's copies; Kanone destroys it, and Neu heads off to find the real Land, never noticing the mage concealed in the rafters above. His core weapon is a gravity-driven telekinesis powerful enough to fling whole sections of a building, precise enough to knock a staff from an opponent's grip.
