Five members of the household set out for the family villa near the water: Tohru, Yuki, Kyo, Shigure, and Hatori. Hoping to stretch their legs, Yuki and Kyo lead Tohru on a walk through the wooded area nearby. The unusual quiet between the two boys leaves her uneasy, and while distracted she stumbles and begins to fall. Both cousins lunge to cushion her landing, and in doing so one changes into the rat while the other becomes the cat.

The bickering that erupts once the two are transformed actually reassures Tohru that they have returned to their usual selves, and the pair admit they have grown relaxed enough around her to stop guarding themselves so tightly. Later Shigure telephones Ayame and invites him to join everyone, a decision that fills Yuki and Kyo with dread. Away from the others, Ayame mentions to Shigure and Hatori that Kana has recently married, which stirs painful memories for Hatori. When Ayame tries yet again to grow closer to his younger brother, the effort collapses, and after Tohru's touch turns him into a snake, Yuki simply hurls him into the lake.

The killer bear legend Shigure spins to spook the group borrows heavily from the Friday the 13th films, a reference so plain that even Yuki brands Kyo foolish for missing it, though Kyo insists the title at least sounded familiar. This installment of the 2001 series adapts chapters 25 and 26 of the manga and pairs the opening theme For Fruits Basket with the closing song Chiisana Inori.
