Appearance

Short in stature and heavy with wrinkles, Fu wears his years plainly, his spiky gray hair capped by a thick mustache. His outfit copies Lan Fan's exactly: black from head to foot, fingerless gloves, dark boots, and plating that guards his chest, the backs of his hands, and the tops of each boot. A white cloth is knotted around his brow. Where Lan Fan's mask conceals her whole face, his reaches only to the nose, and the sign painted on it is the yin-yang's yang portion, pairing with the yin she carries.

Personality

Stern and humorless, Fu ranks his prince's safety far above his own survival and would spend his life without hesitation to see Ling reach the throne. That hardness falls on Lan Fan too: he strikes and scolds her when Ling vanishes into Greed's possession on her watch, the same fight that costs her an arm. Yet love runs beneath the severity, surfacing when he weeps over her lost limb and turns his fury on Bradley the instant he realizes the Führer inflicted that wound.

History

Fu belongs to Xing's Yao clan as a retainer and the personal guard of Prince Ling, and Lan Fan is his granddaughter. Age has not slowed him: he fights with kunai, blades, and homemade Xingese explosives, tumbles and springs with acrobatic ease, and reads the chi of foes before they ever appear, an edge that lets him trade blows with someone as lethal as King Bradley.

His first scene unfolds in Rush Valley, where Ling sends him to corner Alphonse Elric over the Philosopher's Stone; the empty armor unsettles him because no life energy stirs within it, and Paninya's concealed gun catches him off guard. Trailing Ling to Central City, he and Lan Fan help spirit the falsely accused Maria Ross toward Xing by way of the Xerxes ruins. He later returns to a maimed granddaughter and a prince swallowed by Greed, and grief hardens into purpose as he escorts Lan Fan home to prepare.

When the fighting resumes near the Kanama slums, he backs Edward against Pride and Gluttony, then scouts the capital alone since no one there knows his face. His end arrives at the Central Command gate: disarmed and cut open by Bradley, he binds four grenades to himself and leaps at the Führer, who shears every fuse in a single stroke. Captain Buccaneer completes the strike, running a blade through Fu and into Bradley's blind angle to skewer them both. Fu thanks him with his last breath, and Ling and Lan Fan carry his body home to Xing.
