History
In the manga and 2009 anime his part is brief: he helps Scar recover from the wounds taken in the clash with Gluttony and Lust. The 2003 anime expands him considerably, casting him as grandfather to Leo and Rick. There, beyond giving Scar shelter, he reveals to the two boys the truth about their mother and how she died, following a stretch in which they had gone missing.
